Mark Blumenthal is the founder and executive director of the American Botanical Council (ABC), an independent, nonprofit organization dedicated to disseminating accurate, reliable, and responsible information on herbs and medicinal plants. We discuss issues involving research, regulation, marketing, and responsible use of medicinal plants and other alternatives to traditional Western medicine.
Blumenthal is the editor and publisher of HerbalGram, an international, peer-reviewed quarterly journal, and has been a leader in efforts for more rational regulations of herbal and natural product manufacturing, and education on alternative medicines. Mark was an Adjunct Assoc. Prof. of Medicinal Chemistry at the University of Texas at Austin, co-founded the Herb Research Foundation (HRF), was president of the Herb Trade Association, and was a founding board member of the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA). He has appeared on numerous radio and television shows and has written reviews and book chapters for many major publications.
